I live in Ojai, Calif., with my wife Nicky and our son Jack in a peaceful canyon. I have dabbled in all kinds of photography and visual arts for more than 25 years but have primarily committed much of that time to photojournalism. I worked at newspapers and for wire services in California, Florida and Nevada and have been a full-time visual journalism faculty member at Brooks Institute in Ventura, Calif., since 2001.

I fully believe, perhaps with a bit of naiveté, that we can change the world with words and pictures. The outcome of our efforts may be difficult to measure at times but we are all an integral piece of the puzzle of life.

For me, the act of photographing is somewhat of a dance with life and light.

I try to move gracefully, let down my guard and get into a zone.

I strive to be at peace with the surroundings and capture moments intuitively.

I aspire to connect with my subject.

I attempt to tread lightly, leaving no trace – except for a few photographs.

I enjoy re-living these fleeting moments while looking through my take from the day, sometimes many years later.
