I have been involved with photography and the visual arts for more than 25 years. However, my interests and abilities extend beyond the still image. Writing, audio, video, web production, social networking, graphic arts and publication design are essential skills I have learned over the years to succeed in today’s multimedia climate. In recent years my emphasis has shifted from being the storyteller to helping others to be the storytellers. I have experienced great satisfaction in coaching students, professionals and small companies in pursuit of the most effective platform for telling their stories and delivering their message.
I work with young journalists who want to hone their reporting skills and package their stories with media rich content. I provide editing and post-production support for writers, photographers and documentary filmmakers. I provide consultation to photographers looking to develop a portfolio and market their work. I help individuals create websites and establish an online presence. I work with small companies who are looking to deliver their message in new and invigorating ways.
In short, I help others by developing original content or repackaging existing content for their respective needs. Feel free to contact me to discuss my availability for your creative project.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in photojournalism from San Jose State University in 1988, I worked as a photographer and a graphic artist at newspapers and for wire services in California, Florida and Nevada for more than a decade. In 2000, I earned a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Nevada, Reno and later joined the visual journalism faculty at Brooks Institute in 2001.
At Brooks, I teach across the curriculum – photojournalism, publication design, audio storytelling, journalism ethics, news writing and website production. In addition, I have led three overseas documentary projects for the school – Argentina in 2005, China in 2006 and Ireland in 2007. In 2008 I was named faculty of the year.
Outside of shooting and teaching, I am a founding partner of “SportsShooter.Com” and I enjoy working with individuals and small companies to help them establish or improve their online presence with websites and social media.
I reside in Ojai, California with my wife, Nicky, and our 5-year-old son, Jack.
